NOT! Well, to be fair I've never been a fan. But, I feel like it is my duty to all future visitors to be truthful. Stonehenge is on one of those wonders of the worlds list. The perfection of the arch in the Colosseum, the beauty of the Taj Mahal, the length of the Great Wall...and rocks. Which forever people have said, "well its just amazing how they got them there! We may never know how!" The mystery is gone people, they know. They put the rocks on barges and then rolled them down, not even up, a hill.
When you get to the area the road is literally 100 yards away. You then get a listening guide (mine did not work, but others relayed the information to me) then you walk under the street and there are these tall rocks. And I will give them that, they are a lot taller than I thought. You do a circle around the roped off "wonder" and then back on the bus. BUT get this: They are moving it! Yep, the back of the Stonehenge guide clearly states they are relocating them. So, the rocks that are famous for how on earth they got there (my favorite theory is Merlin), are now being relocated to a grassier area. And people will STILL come...point to you England, point to you.
Also, on Saturday we visited Portsmouth. That is where many famous battleships are located and there were museums on the history of the Royal Navy. It was kinda of like Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride meats Mobile Bay meets the Smithsonian. The guides were a lot of fun. They were all ex-naval men and really took an interest in helping us understand the exhibits. Then again they kept commenting on how much they loved helping young pretty ladies, but we will overlook that. The funniest thing we saw was this dummy soldier created in a Nazi POW camp. "The Nazis were bad and all, ya know the Jew thing, but not all of them were like that. In fact most were quite nice and they would let the POWs put on plays," the tour guide told us, and the men took the make-up they were given for the plays, again not going to comment, and created a life-size dummy statue to stand at roll call so one of the British prisoners could escape and get help. It took the Nazi guards 3 days to figure it out. It was very Hogan's Heroes minus Richard Dawson, who actually was British and in the marines. Again point to you England.
